Here I’m going to write a short blog on what is a blog and how to select good titles for your blog. This is more from a practical point of view… But first things first lets look at a definition of a blog and I’ve taken it from wikipedia. Here is an excerpt from their page:
“A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog”
Based on this definition let’s get cracking. So you’re looking to create something that allows individuals or just yourself able to create regular entries onto your site and allowing such entries the possibility of being commented on. There are a few starting points for blogs. Firstly you need to decide if you are going to blog alone or if your going to join a collaborative blog site. If you wish to join a collaborative blog site then you’ll need to find a site that blogs along the same subjects as you do. The benefit of collaborative blogging is that those sites already (usually) have a readership inquiring along those subjects. My recommendation is that if you are new to blogging and or writing, and or if you don’t yet have a dedicated readership then I would suggest find a collaborative blogging site until such time as to when you are ready to go ‘solo’ if ever the need be.
So once you have decided which route you will take its time to write your first blog. You need to have a specific topic in mind as well as a specific reason for writing such a blog. Let’s take for instance this blog. I wanted to write a blog about blogs so my first step I needed to do is to think of a specific key phrase that will be best for my blog. The way I do it is to go to http://google.com/sktool and type in several keyword phrases and or search terms I think would be used by users inquiring on blogs.
In my case I searched the following terms:
how to write a blog
how to create a blog
writing a blog
write a blog
write a good blog
The results came up as follows:

Based on the search results I deduced that for this blog my title should be ‘what is a blog’, and my keyword or key phrase focus should be about what is a blog. You’ll see I’ve highlighted to possible keyword phrases, the other being ‘a blog’. This is also a high search term and thus my title will suffice two high search terms.
Now that I have my focused search term its down to the writing of the blog keeping in mind the following:
- Your blog needs to be focused
- Your title needs to be relevant and use good keyword phrases
Control all comments on your article. Never edit them, but do not allow for bad language, bias, sexist or racist remarks to be displayed. This will usually be done my an administrator in a collabtive environment, for your own blog site… make sure people need to sign up to your blog site, and that an administrator needs to approve the comment before it is published…
I hope you find this helpful. Please feel free to ‘like’ this article or ‘google+’ it, I would appreciate it… oh and comments are welcome.
